A National Network for Family Support

FRP Canada promotes family and community capacity building in Canada.  Founded in 1975 as the Canadian Association of Toy Libraries, FRP Canada has evolved into a pan-Canadian association providing leadership training and research into topics such as child and family development, early learning, family support, literacy, and other topics critical to healthy Canadian families.

FRP Canada has over 500 member organizations; family resource programs providing services to 2000 communities reaching over 500,000 families across Canada.  We help to build a vibrant network of people and organizations who share a commitment to health and wellness, community development and family well-being.

Our Members Are Community-Based Organizations

They are known locally by many names such as family place, neighbourhood house, maison de la famille, parent-child centre or family resource programs.  They are guided by principles that focus on building supportive relationships, facilitating growth, respecting diversity and furthering community development.  Our members are given unique opportunities to participate in groundbreaking research and policymaking that benefits their organizations, family resource programs and families nationwide.  Our duty is to serve as a unified voice for family resource programs and enhance their public profile.

Our Commitment to the Community and our Members

  • To research and provide tools designed to assist family resource programs
  • To develop and deliver training for service providers and organizations
  • To publish primary resources addressing issues in family support and community development
  • To provide benefits to our members to help reduce the cost and simplify logistics of operations
  • To act as the hub for a national network of family resource programs
  • To serve as a voice for family resource programs at the national level
  • To educate and promote family support programs to the community at large
